![]() That’s the one that gets you! I think it was our drum tech, Morgan. I’m amazed that the break was a last minute addition - it’s the hardest hitting moment. S omewhere between 45 minutes and an hour, I had the whole thing fl e shed out: lyrics, melody, chords, the whole nine yards. Other than that, it was done in the basement. That big, climatic break, I think everybody loves that one. So, not too much of a change, but a couple little tweaks that definitely made the song better. And then there’s the big stop in the third chorus -“For handing you a heart worth breaking”-that came to fruition during the pre-production session before we went into the studio to record. We flipped the chords around at the end we played them in a backwards order. The only thing that wasn’t really there is the outro. It was probably a little bit longer than ten minutes, but it wasn’t some six – month labor. Is that just a juicy rock and roll story? The folklore is that you wrote “How You Remind Me” in ten minutes. I had written the second verse, the whole “ C ause living with me must have damn near killed you ,” when it got to that part, I really wanted her to hear it. I wanted it to be really loud so she could hear everything I was saying. I would sing into a PA - there was an actual microphone in front of me - I wasn’t just singing into the room, so it felt like I was really delivering the song. I went downstairs and I turned on my PA system. We got into a fight about something stupid, like what most people fight about. We had been living together for a while, something like two-and-a-half years. I had the first four lines of the song written down in this black leather book that I was constantly jotting ideas into. That’s why we don’t let Mike pick singles. Rumor has it Mike wanted “Never Again” to be the lead single instead of “How You Remind Me.” Is that true? Over Zoom from his home in Vancouver, B.C., Kroeger spoke to Billboard about “How You Remind Me,” Nickelback’s career-defining hit, the rock music landscape of the early 2000s, and just what it is like to become the “longest overnight success in the world, ” 20 years removed from that “ night. This object is obtained by solving several puzzles that feed into each other, ultimately unveiling the final object needed to reach the next part of the game. Each area has a blocked exit that you need a specific item to open. The title's progression is something of a puzzle in itself as well. To put that into perspective I spent roughly half my 10 hours of game time solving 4 puzzles near the end of the game, and the other half solving the other several dozen. ![]() Some of the puzzles very late into the game had me seriously worried that I wouldn’t be able to finish The Eyes of Ara, but with some perseverance (as well as pencil and paper) I was able to achieve that euphoric sense of satisfaction by overcoming what initially seemed insurmountable. I came to appreciate that there was no crutch for me to lean on and I couldn’t simply have the answer given to me after a couple failed attempts. I liked this approach, as it forced me to thoroughly examine my inventory, backtrack to search for additional information and objects, attempt different approaches to demanding puzzles, and occasionally just test answers through a trial and error method and make sense of the answer after the fact. These help you identify areas that need to be searched for clues or objects, but do not in any way help you to solve the actual puzzles. There are a few in-game options for hint modes, which I turned on somewhere in the second chapter. You’ll be tasked with using a multitude of skills in order to solve all of the riddles, which include math puzzles, logic puzzles, decoding puzzles, spatial awareness puzzles, pattern recognition, reading comprehension, mechanical puzzles, word puzzles, and often combinations of these. A moderate to high level of player intelligence is demanded fairly early on and the game only gets progressively more challenging as it progresses. You're briefly eased into the puzzle solving logic of the game and then abruptly pushed into the deep end of the pool of mysteries. If you're expecting a quick and easy puzzle adventure then you’ll leave The Eyes of Ara disappointed and unfinished. The puzzles presented here are largely not for the casual cryptographer. By the end of my time with The Eyes of Ara I was honestly surprised how invested I had become in a couple of the characters and solving the final mysteries of the game. It’s a simple and heartwarming story that gets entangled with the larger narrative of obsessive scientific research, stargazing, and a search for things beyond the Earth. Journal Entries, children’s drawings, posters, books and scattered notes tell the tale of a reclusive man of science who takes in his sister and her two children in their time of need. The story of The Eyes of Ara is told mainly through various documents found around the manor. In the earliest 'training' section of the title, when you're simply entering the castle, you’ll find more evidence of these supernatural-horror themes, but fairly early on this gets replaced with what I felt was a considerably more interesting sci-fi infused concept that gets stronger the further you advance. ![]() It seems that the locals may be a bit superstitious and have heard stories about the castle being haunted, hence why they've brought you in from out of town. The only preamble before you disembark the small vessel is a one page note informing you that you've been contracted to enter the castle to find out what is broadcasting a signal that has been disrupting local communications for the past couple of weeks. Other aspects of these games are usually secondary to this, but The Eyes of Ara produces one of those rare packages where the narrative and atmosphere stands on an equal footing with the impressive array of puzzles that drive the core of the game.Īs you drift towards an ominous looking castle in your row boat during the opening scene the sense of isolation is fairly immediate. ![]() It's very satisfying to solve the riddle that has been stalling your progress, or even to immediately put the pieces together and temporarily feel like a prodigy. When playing puzzles games of various styles my favorite aspect is - perhaps not surprisingly - almost always the puzzles themselves. The Panasonic HZ1000, Panasonic HZ1500 and Panasonic HZ2000 4K TVs all adopt an Ultra HD 4K OLED panel with extremely thin edges. Panasonic offers Dolby Vision IQ technology on three lines of 4K OLED TVs: Viewers that own a Panasonic 4K TV or LG 4K TV compatible with Dolby Vision IQ can enjoy movies on Dolby Vision 4K Blu-ray and Netflix programs in Dolby Vision in the best conditions, day or night, in a dark or bright room. Conversely, if the room is suddenly lit up, Dolby Vision IQ increases the overall brightness of the image to fill in the darker areas while preserving the gray scale and colorimetry. In the middle of the day, if the weather gets cloudy at times and suddenly plunges the room into a darker atmosphere, the brightness of the Dolby Vision image is adjusted in real time to preserve the level of contrast. So, regardless of the overall brightness of the video content in Dolby Vision, the image remains readable when viewed in a bright room or in a dark room. Dolby Vision IQ combines the dynamic metadata contained in the video file and the ambient light data from the light sensor built into the TV. What is Dolby Vision IQ?ĭolby Vision IQ is an evolution of Dolby Vision which adjusts the brightness, colors and contrast of the TV screen in real time according to the lighting conditions in the room. It adapts the HDR rendering according to the brightness of the room and is now installed on many LG and Panasonic 4K and 8K TVs.įor its part, Samsung has just announced that its next QLED TV ranges will incorporate HDR10+ Adaptive technology, a variation of HDR10+ which also allows HDR rendering to be adapted to ambient light conditions. An example of this is the famous episode of Game Of Thrones, whose night scenes during the Battle of Winterfell were impossible to watch on some HDR televisions.ĭolby is the first company to have looked into this and has provided the Dolby Vision IQ feature since early 2020. HDR images can therefore be problematic depending on the conditions in which they are viewed: details in very dark scenes are often difficult to see in a brightly lit room. The environment in which the television is located can vary considerably depending on different factors such as the lighting in the room, the time of day and the proximity of windows. But this is not always possible when you want to watch a movie or a series. It is usually best to view HDR content in a dark environment. Consult the guide: “ Everything there is to know about HDR10 and Dolby Vision“.Viewers perceive more detail in both the brighter and darker parts of the image. A greater and more accurate intra-image contrast is obtained with more gradations in the brightness scale. HDR content offers more intermediate gradations between the darkest parts and the lightest parts of the image than standard dynamic range (SDR) content.Īs the human eye is extremely sensitive to variations in light intensity, the result in the image is immediately noticeable. ![]() HDR TVs can display images with very strong differences in brightness.
